isGenAI platform metadata survival study. CC0-1.0. First run: 19 October 2026. Question: which AI and provenance records survive when an image is uploaded to a platform and downloaded again? Fixtures (fixtures/): five code-drawn 640x400 test images, each carrying one deliberately attached record. The records are test data. They do not describe how the pixels were made. - a1111-parameters.png: PNG "parameters" text record in the AUTOMATIC1111 format (prompt, settings, seed, model). - comfyui-workflow.png: PNG "workflow" and "prompt" records holding ComfyUI editor and API graphs. - iptc-ai-source.jpg: XMP packet with Iptc4xmpExt:DigitalSourceType = trainedAlgorithmicMedia. - exif-camera-gps.jpg: EXIF camera make/model, capture settings and GPS latitude/longitude (invented values). - c2pa-signed.png: C2PA manifest signed with a disposable test certificate (c2pa.created, algorithmicMedia). The pixels of every PNG fixture equal public/examples/guide-lab/without-records.png (SHA-256 acdc3a0a...). Platforms tested: X (19 October 2026). Each fixture was uploaded with the X API v2 media upload (media_category tweet_image), attached to a post from @isgenai labeled as a test upload, fetched from the served pbs.twimg.com URL (default, ?name=large and ?name=orig) and the post was then deleted. Downloaded copies: x/. Upload, post and deletion log: x-run.json. Readers: isGenAI's own code, the same used by the site tools: C2PA inspection (@contentauth/c2pa-node with validation), IPTC DigitalSourceType XMP reader, EXIF/GPS viewer, saved-prompt and ComfyUI workflow readers. Files: - fixtures.json: fixture provenance, SHA-256 and "before" observations. - results.json: every downloaded copy, its SHA-256, format, dimensions, byte size, decoded-pixel comparison and record-by-record survival (kept / removed / not_in_original / appeared). - x-run.json: X post ids, media ids, served URLs, HTTP status, timestamps and deletion status. Reproduce in the isGenAI source checkout: npx tsx scripts/platform-metadata-study.ts fixtures npx tsx scripts/platform-metadata-study.ts x (needs X OAuth 2.0 tokens with tweet.write and media.write) npx tsx scripts/platform-metadata-study.ts analyze Limits: one upload path per platform (official API), small synthetic images, one date. Platforms change their processing without notice; the web uploader, mobile apps, direct messages and larger photos may behave differently. A removed record says nothing about whether an image is AI-generated. Untested platforms are listed on https://isgenai.com/research/platform-metadata-survival as not yet tested.
