isGenAI.com · Free fake receipt checker

Upload the receipt image you were sent, ideally the original file rather than a screenshot. isGenAI reads the records inside it and names any AI generator it finds: Content Credentials (C2PA), IPTC AI labels, saved prompts and generator metadata.

Free. No account. Private by default.

What the check finds in a receipt

  • ChatGPT and OpenAI images. OpenAI says images generated with ChatGPT, Codex or the OpenAI API include Content Credentials. When the original file still has them, the result names OpenAI as the generator and shows the signature status.
  • Other generators and editors. Content Credentials from other tools that sign their output, and IPTC labels such as trainedAlgorithmicMedia or compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia for AI edits.
  • Saved prompts. Prompts and settings stored by Stable Diffusion tools such as AUTOMATIC1111 and ComfyUI.
  • Known copies. Matches with images already checked in isGenAI records, useful when the same receipt is reused across claims.

How to check a receipt someone sent you

  1. Ask for the original file. A forwarded screenshot has lost its records; an emailed attachment or the downloaded file usually keeps more.
  2. Run the check above. Any AI evidence is a reason to reject or escalate the claim.
  3. Verify the purchase itself. Match the date, amount and last card digits against the statement, look up the merchant’s address and tax number, and check that totals, tax and item prices add up.
  4. Contact the merchant when the amount matters. A transaction or order number they cannot find settles it.

What it cannot catch

Most forged receipts carry no record at all: they are edited by hand, re-photographed or screenshotted, which strips Content Credentials. isGenAI does not read SynthID watermarks and gives no visual verdict, so a clean result means no record was found, not that the receipt is genuine.

Fake receipt checker questions

Can isGenAI tell if a receipt is fake?

It tells you when the receipt file records that AI made it: Content Credentials (C2PA) from a generator such as ChatGPT, an IPTC AI source label, a saved prompt or generator metadata. It does not judge from the pixels whether a receipt looks forged, and it cannot confirm a purchase happened.

Do ChatGPT receipts carry a mark isGenAI can read?

OpenAI says images generated with ChatGPT, Codex or the OpenAI API include Content Credentials and SynthID watermarks. isGenAI reads the Content Credentials when the original file still has them. A screenshot or re-export removes them, and isGenAI does not read SynthID.

Does a clean result mean the receipt is real?

No. Receipts edited by hand, photographed from a screen, screenshotted or made with a tool that writes no record show nothing. Confirm the purchase with the merchant, the card statement or the booking system before you pay a claim.

Can I check a PDF receipt?

The image checker accepts PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF and TIFF. For a PDF, use the Content Credentials checker, which reads C2PA in PDF files, and check the PDF’s producer details against the merchant’s usual invoices.

Can expense or claims teams automate this?

Yes. POST each receipt image to https://isgenai.com/v1/check with privacy=private and public_receipt=false. No API key is needed, and the JSON lists every finding with its source, so receipts with AI evidence can go to manual review.
