AI identifier: find out if AI made it, and which tool

Upload an image or file, paste text, or paste a public link. isGenAI identifies the AI use the content records, and the tool that made it whenever the record names one, quoting the exact Content Credentials, AI label, saved prompt or statement it found.

Check my image for AI

Drop an image here or pick one from your device. The check starts the moment you choose a file.

PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF or single-page TIFF · Up to 20 MiBTIFF: full file evidence and eight pixel measurements, read straight from the original bytes, up to 40 million pixels.
Your uploads and pasted content stay private by default.Privacy

Every result shows exactly what we found and exactly how we checked it.

What the AI identifier can identify

  • The AI tool behind an image. C2PA Content Credentials record the software and actions used, and AI image tools such as AUTOMATIC1111 and ComfyUI save the model, prompt and settings in the file.
  • An AI-generated label. The IPTC digital source type and platform labels such as “Made with AI” state that a picture was generated or edited with AI.
  • Declared AI use in text and code. Sentences and comments that say ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot helped write the content.
  • Earlier checks of the same file. A matching copy in isGenAI records shows what was already found.

How to identify AI in an image, file, text or link

  1. Choose the file, text or link tab above.
  2. Upload the original file if you have it, or paste the content or public URL.
  3. Read each finding with its source, then open “How we checked” for what was and was not read.

What it does not do

The identifier does not guess an author from writing style or from how pixels look. Every result comes from a record you can retrace, so a finding can be quoted in a fact-check, a classroom or a newsroom. For images specifically, the AI image detector explains each record type, and the C2PA checker shows a full Content Credentials manifest. The method and its limits are in the checker methodology.

Questions about identifying AI content

What does an AI identifier do?

It identifies whether content records AI use and, where the record says so, which AI tool made or edited it. isGenAI reads the evidence carried by the file or page: C2PA Content Credentials, IPTC “AI-generated” labels, prompts saved by Stable Diffusion tools, and statements such as “written with ChatGPT”. Each identification quotes the record it came from.

Can it identify which AI generator made an image?

When the file records it, yes. Content Credentials can name the tool (for example an OpenAI or Adobe Firefly export), and AUTOMATIC1111, ComfyUI, InvokeAI and NovelAI save the model and settings in the file. If the records were stripped by a screenshot or a social upload, there is nothing left to identify from, and the report says so rather than guessing.

Is the AI identifier free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and uploaded files and pasted text are private by default.

Does “no AI found” mean a person made it?

No. A missing record only means this copy carries no AI evidence. Records are often removed when images are re-saved or reposted, so check the original download when it matters.
