What happens when you upload a file
- The file is parsed, not judged by eye. isGenAI reads its metadata blocks: PNG text chunks, JPEG APP segments, WebP chunks and embedded C2PA manifests.
- AI records are matched. Signed Content Credentials, the IPTC digital source type, AI labels and generator settings are reported separately, so you can see which claim is signed and which is plain text that anyone could edit.
- You get a report you can retrace. Each finding quotes the record and its location, with a clear note when the copy carries no AI evidence.
Getting the most reliable result
Upload the original file from the camera, the AI tool or the sender, not a screenshot or a social-media download, because those usually lose their records. To see the full chain of a Content Credentials manifest, use the C2PA checker; to read just the saved prompt, use the image prompt extractor; and to inspect every metadata field, use the EXIF viewer.
Checking many files? The free isGenAI API takes the same uploads, and AI assistants can call it through the isGenAI MCP server.
