Read your photo’s EXIF data.

See the camera settings, capture dates and GPS fields saved in an image. Search the readable records and download a JSON report, directly in your browser.

Your file stays in this browser. No upload, account or external map.

JPEG, PNG, WebP and classic TIFF · up to 20 MiB. Reads metadata without decoding or changing the image.

From original photo to readable records

  1. Choose the original file. Use a JPEG, PNG, WebP or classic TIFF up to 20 MiB. A screenshot or messaging-app copy may have already lost its EXIF.
  2. Read and filter the fields. Look for Make, Model, DateTimeOriginal, ExposureTime, FNumber, ISOSpeedRatings or GPS. Only fields actually readable in your file appear.
  3. Save a report when you need it. The JSON includes all displayed result fields, even when the search box filters the screen. Review location and owner information before sharing it.

Standard EXIF keys and reader descriptions are preserved in the result and JSON; file values are not translated.

Try a camera record you can check

The controlled JPEG example contains invented settings: 1/125 exposure, f/2.8, ISO 200, and 2026:01:02 03:04:05. Its illustrative latitude is 51.5 and longitude -0.12. These are editable test records attached to a solid-color image, not a real photograph or a verified location.

Use “Try image without EXIF” to see the empty-result state. It contains no EXIF, but that does not mean every possible kind of metadata was checked.

Remove standalone metadata from a supported image using the separate local PNG export tool.

Read a saved AI image prompt when you need supported generation instructions. That separate reader sends your chosen file to isGenAI.

Inspect Content Credentials (English) when you need supported signed records and their validation results. That separate checker uploads the selected file.

EXIF viewer questions

How do I view the EXIF data in a photo?

Choose an original JPEG, PNG, WebP or classic TIFF file up to 20 MiB, then select Read EXIF data. Search the result for camera make, lens, date, exposure or GPS. Download the readable field report as JSON. The file is processed in this browser and is not uploaded.

Can this viewer show where a photo was taken?

It displays readable EXIF GPS fields when present, including derived decimal latitude and longitude. It does not infer location from pixels or send coordinates to a map service. Coordinates can be changed or removed, so they are a saved claim rather than verified capture location.

Why are the camera or capture date missing?

The device or editor may not have saved those fields, and messaging services or exports can remove them. Some records may also be unsupported or damaged. Try the original file. The absence of readable EXIF does not prove an image is human-made, AI-generated or free of other metadata.

Does it show every metadata field?

No. This viewer focuses on supported EXIF camera, date, orientation and GPS fields. It excludes MakerNotes, thumbnails, UserComment, XMP and IPTC. It reads the initial TIFF image records, not a complete inventory of every page or embedded image. Large results are limited to 500 EXIF fields plus derived coordinates and 1,000 characters per value, with a visible notice when shortened.

Can I recover the original capture time from EXIF?

DateTimeOriginal shows the saved capture-time value if readable. It may lack a time zone, reflect an incorrect camera clock or have been edited. This viewer displays the record rather than converting it into a verified time or reconstructing a missing date.

Can this tool remove GPS or prove the photo is authentic?

This is a reader: it leaves the original file unchanged. Use the separate metadata remover to produce a new supported PNG without standalone metadata records, or the Content Credentials checker to inspect supported signed records. Readable EXIF alone does not prove authenticity, authorship or AI origin.
