Remove image metadata. Keep a clean PNG copy.
Export your picture without separate EXIF, GPS, saved prompts or text records. This tool rebuilds a still image locally and verifies the new PNG’s chunks before offering a download. Your original stays unchanged.
Your selected image is processed on this device. It is not uploaded.
PNG, JPEG or WebP · Up to 20 MiB and 12 million pixels · New PNG output · No account needed
From an original file to a verified export
- Choose your image. Use a still PNG, JPEG or WebP within the size limits. Keep an original copy if you need its camera details, saved prompt or creation records.
- Create the new PNG. The browser decodes and re-encodes the pixels. The tool removes nonessential PNG chunks and validates chunk boundaries, checksums and output dimensions.
- Review and download. Inspect the preview and byte size, then save clean-image.png. No original filename is carried into the download name.
For example, a PNG with a saved prompt in a text chunk becomes a new PNG without that chunk. Its visible picture may still reveal where it was taken or who appears in it. Removing metadata is not complete privacy redaction.
Image metadata removal questions
How do I remove metadata from an image?
Choose a still PNG, JPEG or WebP, then create a new PNG with this tool. Your browser decodes the image and exports its pixels. The tool checks the PNG chunks and retains only the image header, palette or transparency data when needed, compressed pixels and ending. Download the verified file as clean-image.png.
Does this remove EXIF, GPS, XMP and saved AI prompts?
The new PNG has no separate EXIF, XMP, text or Content Credentials chunks. That excludes GPS fields in EXIF and prompts or workflow records stored as PNG text. This is an output-format check, not a scan of every field in the original. Visible location clues, names, watermarks and information encoded in image pixels remain.
Will my image look exactly the same?
Not necessarily. The browser applies its decoding and orientation handling before exporting PNG. Color conversion, rounding and removal of profiles can affect appearance. The decoded width and height are preserved, including the browser's interpretation of EXIF orientation. Transparent pixels can remain transparent. The PNG can be larger than the original JPEG or WebP.
Does removing metadata make an image anonymous or change an AI verdict?
No. Removing file records does not remove identifying details visible or encoded in pixels, and it does not establish human or AI authorship. This tool performs no origin classification. Re-encoding discards original provenance records and does not preserve their signatures. Keep the original if that evidence matters.
Is the image uploaded, and is there a limit?
Your selected image is processed locally without upload. Each input must be at most 20 MiB, or 20,971,520 bytes, and 12 million decoded pixels. Only still PNG, JPEG and WebP are supported. Animated PNG, animated WebP and multi-picture JPEG/MPO are rejected rather than silently exporting one frame. The output is a new PNG; JPEG and WebP output are not offered here.
Inspect the records before you remove them
Read supported creation settings, save a workflow graph or compare supported records before and after export. These separate readers send chosen files to isGenAI for processing. The comparison does not inventory every EXIF, GPS or XMP field.
