Runway AI detector: what a Gen-4 export can prove
Runway publishes no documentation we could find of Content Credentials in Gen-3 or Gen-4 exports as of October 2026, so a Runway file is checked for whatever it carries: the C2PA checker validates any manifest in an MP4 or MOV, and the AI image detector reads frames or stills exported as images.

Content Credentials found
A signed manifest describes how the file was made.
Signer, recording tool, actions and the signature check result are reported separately, so you can weigh each one.

We found no Runway help-centre or policy page describing C2PA Content Credentials, IPTC marking or watermarks in exported video. Runway’s hosted pipeline may add such records at any time, so the file in hand is the only reliable source.
Video containers do carry C2PA manifests in some vendors’ exports, and MP4 and MOV are supported by isGenAI’s C2PA checker.
What isGenAI reads from a Runway export
Upload the MP4 or MOV to the C2PA checker to validate any signed manifest. Use the video metadata viewer to read the container headers in your browser: brands, tracks, timescales and creation dates as written, without authenticating them. Extract still frames with the video frame extractor, then run a frame through the AI image detector; a frame is a new image, so it carries no provenance of its own, but it can be matched by fingerprint against known copies.
The AI image detector itself accepts images, not video.
Limits to state plainly
A screen recording or a social download removes any manifest. Platform labels on TikTok or YouTube live on the platform and do not travel with a saved file. The absence of a credential in a Runway export is not evidence of a camera origin.
The Sora page explains a vendor that does document provenance in video.
How to check an image from this generator
- Get the original download, not a screenshot or a copy saved from a chat or social feed.
- Upload it to the free AI image detector. Files up to 20 MiB in PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF or TIFF are read on the server and are private by default.
- Open “How we checked” and read each finding with its source field: signed record, declared source type, saved prompt, AI statement or matching copy.
- Treat a clean result as “no evidence found”, never as proof that a person made the picture.
Frequently asked questions
Does Runway add C2PA metadata to Gen-4 videos?
We found no Runway documentation as of October 2026. Upload the MP4 or MOV to the C2PA checker; it validates a manifest if one is present.
Can the AI image detector check a Runway video?
Not directly. Extract frames with the video frame extractor and check a frame, or use the C2PA checker and video metadata viewer on the file itself.
Is a Runway video detectable after a screen recording?
No. A recording is a new file with none of the original records, and isGenAI does not infer origin from pixels.
What does the video metadata viewer show?
Container headers such as major brand, tracks, timescale, durations and creation dates exactly as written, in your browser, without authenticating them.
