AI performance or impersonation? Ask where the permission is documented.
Recognizing a voice or face does not establish how it was produced or whether its use was authorized. Build a record of the performance and the permission described by its producers.
Define the performance under review
Record the film, advertisement, song or interactive experience, its release date and the part described as synthetic. A restored archival recording, a newly generated voice and an actor’s imitation are different production claims.
Look for production credits and an attributable explanation. If a representative speaks for an estate or performer, record who made the statement and which use it describes. Avoid expanding a narrow authorization into a claim that every later reuse is approved.
Create an authorization evidence table
Use four columns: production claim, source, scope described and remaining question. The public record may be enough to describe what the parties say while leaving the underlying agreement private. You do not need to invent its terms.
- Find the producer’s original announcement and credits.
- Locate any corresponding performer, estate or representative statement.
- Compare the named project, medium and release with the asset being shared.
- Describe unresolved scope questions without issuing a legal verdict.
Explain the audience-facing distinction
A clearly disclosed, authorized synthetic performance can still prompt debate about artistic choices. Report that debate separately from an allegation of unauthorized impersonation. The distinction helps readers understand what is disputed.
Image provenance may establish a production record for a still. It does not validate a voice model’s training history, a contract or the rights to a performance. For consequential rights decisions, the actual agreement and qualified advice matter more than an image-check result.

Choose the supported tool that fits your question. Keep the original source and save the output with your notes. Frame extraction, file-record inspection and still-image checks answer different questions; none alone authenticates a complete video or its audio.
