AI image detector by platform

Reddit AI image detector: hosted uploads versus linked images

Images uploaded to Reddit’s own image host are re-encoded and, as widely reported, lose EXIF, XMP and manifests, while posts that link to an external image serve that file untouched, so where a Reddit image is hosted decides whether isGenAI can read anything from it.

Screenshots and re-exports often drop records.

A clean copy is not proof of a human author, so the report says what is missing and asks for the original.

Records like these are often removed when a picture passes through Reddit, so the report says what is missing instead of guessing. The picture is a code-drawn controlled example with no records; download it and check it yourself.

What Reddit strips and adds

Reddit publishes no detailed metadata policy. Independent reports agree that uploads served from Reddit’s host are re-encoded, often to WebP or JPEG at several sizes, which removes EXIF, XMP and any manifest. A post that merely links to an external image does not process that file, so its records stay intact. Reddit applies no AI label to images as of October 2026; subreddit flair is set by posters and moderators.

Stable Diffusion communities often share PNGs through external hosts precisely so the saved prompt survives.

What isGenAI shows for a Reddit image

The AI image detector reads the file you upload: a C2PA manifest if one survived, the IPTC DigitalSourceType in XMP, AI statements in metadata, saved prompts in the AUTOMATIC1111, ComfyUI and InvokeAI formats, and matching copies by hash and perceptual fingerprint. A platform copy with none of these returns “no evidence found”, and the report says plainly that absence proves nothing about the author.

For a linked PNG from a generator, the image prompt extractor and ComfyUI workflow viewer may show the full saved prompt or graph.

What to do instead

Check the post: a direct external link is worth downloading; a Reddit-hosted image usually is not. Ask the poster for the original in the comments, and compare copies with the image metadata compare tool.

The Discord page covers the other place these communities share files.

How to check an image from this platform

  1. Note the platform’s own label or credential icon on the post before you download anything; it does not travel with the file.
  2. Ask the poster for the original file, or trace the first upload. A platform download is a re-encoded copy on most services.
  3. Upload what you have to the AI image detector and read the report. A stripped copy returns “no evidence found” honestly.
  4. Use the matching-copy check: a hash or perceptual fingerprint match can tie the stripped copy to an original that still carried records.

Frequently asked questions

Does Reddit remove image metadata?

Images uploaded to Reddit’s own host are re-encoded and lose EXIF, XMP and manifests in practice. Externally linked images are served unchanged.

Can isGenAI read a Stable Diffusion prompt from a Reddit image?

Only from an original PNG served from an external host or supplied by the poster. Reddit-hosted copies have lost the text chunks.

Does Reddit label AI-generated images?

No platform label as of October 2026. Flair is set by posters and moderators and is not a file record.

How do I get a checkable copy from Reddit?

Download from the external link if there is one, or ask the poster for the original file; then upload it to the AI image detector.
