AI image detector by platform

Telegram AI image detector: the file send keeps the evidence

Telegram re-encodes pictures sent as photos and drops their metadata, while pictures sent as files arrive unchanged with every record intact, so ask for a file send before checking a Telegram image in isGenAI.

No record in this copy

Screenshots and re-exports often drop records.

A clean copy is not proof of a human author, so the report says what is missing and asks for the original.

Records like these are often removed when a picture passes through Telegram, so the report says what is missing instead of guessing. The picture is a code-drawn controlled example with no records; download it and check it yourself.

What Telegram strips and adds

A Telegram photo is resized and re-encoded as JPEG for inline display and, as widely reported, loses EXIF, XMP and any manifest. Choosing “send as file” (uncompressed) moves the exact bytes, up to Telegram’s file limit, and the recipient downloads it as a document. Telegram adds no AI label to shared images. Channels and bots that repost images usually do so as photos.

Stickers and animated media are converted formats with no provenance at all.

What isGenAI shows for a Telegram image

The AI image detector reads the file you upload: a C2PA manifest if one survived, the IPTC DigitalSourceType in XMP, AI statements in metadata, saved prompts in the AUTOMATIC1111, ComfyUI and InvokeAI formats, and matching copies by hash and perceptual fingerprint. A platform copy with none of these returns “no evidence found”, and the report says plainly that absence proves nothing about the author.

A file-send copy can be checked exactly like the sender’s original, including PNG text chunks with saved prompts, which is why Stable Diffusion communities on Telegram share generations as files.

What to do instead

Ask for the image as a file. If it came from a channel, look for the channel’s source or the original creator. Compare the file copy with a known original using the image SHA-256 checksum tool.

The WhatsApp and Discord pages cover the same choice in other apps.

How to check an image from this platform

  1. Note the platform’s own label or credential icon on the post before you download anything; it does not travel with the file.
  2. Ask the poster for the original file, or trace the first upload. A platform download is a re-encoded copy on most services.
  3. Upload what you have to the AI image detector and read the report. A stripped copy returns “no evidence found” honestly.
  4. Use the matching-copy check: a hash or perceptual fingerprint match can tie the stripped copy to an original that still carried records.

Frequently asked questions

Does Telegram remove metadata from photos?

Photos are re-encoded and lose EXIF, XMP and manifests in practice. Files sent uncompressed arrive unchanged with all records.

Can isGenAI read a Telegram file send?

Yes. A file-send copy is byte-identical to the sender’s original, so any C2PA record, source type or saved prompt is readable.

Does Telegram label AI images?

We found no Telegram AI label for shared images as of October 2026.

What about images from Telegram channels?

Channels usually post photos, which are re-encoded. Trace the channel’s source and request the original file.
