ComfyUI workflow: the node graph saved in the PNG
A ComfyUI workflow is the node graph that produced an image, saved by ComfyUI into the PNG as two text chunks: workflow, the editable graph with layout, and prompt, the API execution graph of node classes and inputs, both restorable by dragging the image back onto the canvas.

ComfyUI workflow found
The node graph travelled with the image.
The prompt graph and workflow chunks are listed node by node, so you can see how the image was built.

ComfyUI’s documentation describes the workflow field as the editable graph and the prompt field as the execution graph. The README states that dragging a generated PNG onto the page restores the full workflow including seeds, and the --disable-metadata option turns saving off. The graph references models and custom nodes by name; it does not bundle them.
Both records are plain JSON in PNG text chunks, unsigned and editable.
How isGenAI reads a workflow
The ComfyUI workflow viewer shows the record types, a filterable node inventory and lets you download each JSON unchanged. The AI image detector and prompt extractor parse the prompt graph from the SaveImage node back to the sampler and report a saved prompt when there is exactly one sampler and consistent text encoders, or a saved workflow when the graph is multi-stage. FLUX graphs with CLIPTextEncodeFlux and FluxGuidance nodes are followed as well.
Sharing workflows
Share the original PNG or the exported JSON; a screenshot or a Discord preview loses the chunks. The ComfyUI guides include worked examples with downloadable files.
Custom nodes add their own fields to the saved graph. isGenAI reports the node classes it finds, and the viewer lists unfamiliar ones, but it never executes a node or fetches anything referenced by the graph. Reading a workflow is safe; running it requires the right models and nodes on your own machine.
How to use this term when checking a file
- Upload the original file to the AI image detector or the tool named on the page.
- Find the finding that uses this term under “How we checked” and read the source field it names.
- Weigh it by kind: a signed record, a declared field, a saved prompt and a matching copy are different strengths of evidence.
- Remember that absence of a record is not evidence of a human author.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a ComfyUI PNG have both prompt and workflow?
workflow is the editable canvas graph; prompt is the API execution graph. ComfyUI saves both so the image can be reloaded and re-run.
Can isGenAI show the workflow JSON?
Yes. The ComfyUI workflow viewer displays the node inventory and downloads the saved JSON exactly as stored.
Why is my image reported as a workflow, not a prompt?
The graph has several samplers or stages, so there is no single original prompt to report.
Does the workflow include the model files?
No. It references checkpoints and custom nodes by name only.
