ArtStation AI check: what CreatedWithAI and NoAI tell you
ArtStation lets viewers hide projects tagged CreatedWithAI and requires that tag on generative-AI Marketplace products, while its NoAI tag is an HTML opt-out from AI use, so both are page signals and the image file must be checked separately.

ArtStation’s help center states that CreatedWithAI tagging is required on all content distributed through the ArtStation Marketplace, that viewers can hide artwork created with AI on the homepage, in search and in the marketplaces, and that projects tagged NoAI get an HTML “NoAI” meta tag disallowing use by AI systems. ArtStation does not ban AI-made work. In September 2026, 80 Level reported that ArtStation is turning the NoAI setting on by default for new projects and applying it to existing ones.
We found no ArtStation documentation, as of October 2026, of what metadata survives in the images it serves, or of C2PA Content Credentials. Artists widely report visible compression on uploads, so treat a saved project image as a re-encoded copy.
What isGenAI shows for an ArtStation image
The AI image detector reads the file you upload: a C2PA manifest if one survived, the IPTC DigitalSourceType in XMP, AI statements in metadata, saved prompts in the AUTOMATIC1111, ComfyUI and InvokeAI formats, and matching copies by hash and perceptual fingerprint. A platform copy with none of these returns “no evidence found”, and the report says plainly that absence proves nothing about the author.
NoAI is an opt-out from AI training, not a claim that the work was made without AI; isGenAI does not read it as evidence.
What to do instead
Note whether the project carries the CreatedWithAI tag and which software the artist lists, keep the project URL, and ask the artist for the original file or working files when provenance matters.
A project without the tag is not verified as hand-made: outside the Marketplace, tagging depends on the artist.
How to check an image from this platform
- Note the platform’s own label or credential icon on the post before you download anything; it does not travel with the file.
- Ask the poster for the original file, or trace the first upload. A platform download is a re-encoded copy on most services.
- Upload what you have to the AI image detector and read the report. A stripped copy returns “no evidence found” honestly.
- Use the matching-copy check: a hash or perceptual fingerprint match can tie the stripped copy to an original that still carried records.
Frequently asked questions
What is the CreatedWithAI tag on ArtStation?
A tag for work made with generative AI. ArtStation requires it on Marketplace products and uses it to let viewers hide AI work, per its help center.
What does NoAI mean on ArtStation?
Projects tagged NoAI get an HTML meta tag that disallows use by AI systems. It is a training opt-out, not a statement about how the work was made.
Does ArtStation keep image metadata?
ArtStation does not document it. Upload the saved image to isGenAI to see what survived, and ask the artist for the original.
Does ArtStation support Content Credentials?
We found no ArtStation documentation of C2PA Content Credentials as of October 2026.
