isGenAI vs TruthScan: AI image detection compared
TruthScan is an enterprise-oriented detector for images, PDFs, video, voice and text: it returns a confidence score, a heatmap and a summary, with 25 free results a month and paid plans from $24 a month. isGenAI is a free, no-account checker that reads the evidence saved in the file, such as C2PA Content Credentials, IPTC labels and saved prompts, and does not score pixels.

isGenAI and TruthScan compared
| Question | isGenAI | TruthScan |
|---|---|---|
| Free use | Free web checker and free browser tools; no paid tier is needed to check a file. | 25 results a month, including API access, with no credit card. (source) |
| Sign-up | None. No account, no email. | The free plan runs from a dashboard account; API keys come from the developer portal. (source) |
| Paid plans | None needed. | Starter $24 a month for 1,000 results, up to Business $333 a month; Enterprise custom. (source) |
| Method | Reads records saved in the file: C2PA Content Credentials, the IPTC digital source type, prompts saved by AUTOMATIC1111, ComfyUI, InvokeAI or NovelAI, and EXIF or generator metadata. It never scores how the pixels look. | Looks for generative artifacts, pixel manipulation, compression and noise inconsistencies and metadata anomalies; checks PDF fonts and layers. (source) |
| Result | Named findings, each with the field it came from, or “no AI evidence found” (which means no record in that copy, not proof of a camera). | A confidence score, a heatmap of suspicious areas and a plain-language summary. (source) |
| File limits | PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF up to 20 MiB plus single-page TIFF; the C2PA checker also reads HEIC/HEIF, PDF, MP4 and MOV up to 25 MiB. | Many image formats including HEIC, AVIF, TIFF and SVG, plus PDF; single files 1 KB to 10 MB. (source) |
| API | POST /v1/check with a file, URL, text or code. No API key for the documented endpoints. | API key required; 250 requests a minute per key by default. (source) |
| Privacy | Private by default: private checks stay out of public reports, and the C2PA checker processes uploads in memory without storing them. | Submitted content is kept for 30 days by default and aggregated, anonymised data is used for training; zero retention on Business and Enterprise plans. When to use which
Choose TruthScan when
- You run fraud checks on documents and photos, such as insurance claims or KYC, and need PDF tampering analysis.
- You need a score and heatmap for files with no records, or video and voice detection.
- You need compliance paperwork such as SOC 2 for a vendor review.
Choose isGenAI when
- You want to read what the file itself declares, such as a C2PA signer or a saved prompt, with no account.
- You want an API without a key or a monthly result count.
- You check text or code for declared AI use too.

Content Credentials found
A signed manifest describes how the file was made.
Signer, recording tool, actions and the signature check result are reported separately, so you can weigh each one.

- Get the original file, ideally the download from the generator or the sender, not a screenshot or a copy re-saved by a social app.
- Open the free AI image detector at isgenai.com/ai-image-detector and upload the file. No account is needed.
- Read each finding with the field it came from: a C2PA manifest, an IPTC digital source type, a saved prompt or generator metadata.
- If the report says no AI evidence was found, treat that as “no record in this copy”, then look for the original source or run a pixel-based classifier if you need a probability.
Questions
Is isGenAI a free TruthScan alternative?
For record-based checks, yes: free, no account and no key. TruthScan’s heatmaps, PDF forensics and video and voice scoring go beyond what isGenAI offers.
Does TruthScan use metadata?
