Sightengine AI image detector vs isGenAI

Sightengine’s AI image detection is pixel-only: it returns an ai_generated score from 0 to 1 and, by its own description, ignores EXIF, C2PA and watermarks. isGenAI does the opposite job. It reads the C2PA Content Credentials, IPTC labels and saved prompts in the file and never scores the pixels, so the two answer different questions and work well together.

When to use which

Choose Sightengine when

  • You need a score for images that carry no records, such as screenshots or social-media copies; Sightengine is built for exactly that.
  • You moderate high volumes and want one API that also covers video and face manipulation.
  • You want a long list of named generators in the score breakdown.

Choose isGenAI when

  • You need the evidence Sightengine deliberately ignores: who signed a C2PA manifest, what the IPTC label says, or the saved prompt.
  • You want a free check with no account and no operation counting.
  • You need to explain a result to someone else by pointing at a field in the file.

Content Credentials found

A signed manifest describes how the file was made.

Signer, recording tool, actions and the signature check result are reported separately, so you can weigh each one.

How to do the same job with isGenAI

  1. Get the original file, ideally the download from the generator or the sender, not a screenshot or a copy re-saved by a social app.
  2. Open the free AI image detector at isgenai.com/ai-image-detector and upload the file. No account is needed.
  3. Read each finding with the field it came from: a C2PA manifest, an IPTC digital source type, a saved prompt or generator metadata.
  4. If the report says no AI evidence was found, treat that as “no record in this copy”, then look for the original source or run a pixel-based classifier if you need a probability.

Questions

Does Sightengine read C2PA or metadata?

Its AI-image documentation says the detector is pixel-based and does not use EXIF, C2PA or watermarks (as of October 2026). isGenAI reads exactly those records, so running both covers both kinds of evidence.

Is isGenAI more accurate than Sightengine?

They do not measure the same thing, so a head-to-head accuracy number would mislead. A record isGenAI finds is a fact about the file; Sightengine’s score is an estimate that still works when records are missing.

Is there a free Sightengine alternative without sign-up?

isGenAI’s image checker is free with no account. It reports records, not a pixel score, so for record-free images you would still need a classifier.

Is isGenAI part of Sightengine?

No. isGenAI is independent and not affiliated with Sightengine or Kozelo SAS. The facts here come from Sightengine’s own pages as of October 2026.
