Image SHA-256 Checksum

Calculate the SHA-256 fingerprint of an original image file locally in your browser.

Your selected images stay in this browser. No AI model call or server upload.

Selected files: 0 · PNG, JPEG and WebP. Up to 8 MB per file and 12 million decoded pixels. Batch totals cannot exceed 40 MB. Exports are still images; animation is not retained.

Exported images do not carry the original saved prompts, EXIF or Content Credentials. Keep the original file when you need its creation records.

The checksum covers every original byte, including metadata. Identical-looking images may have different checksums. A matching hash establishes byte equality, not who created the file or whether it is AI-generated.

How to use this tool

  1. Select the original PNG, JPEG or WebP file you want to fingerprint.
  2. Run the checksum tool to calculate SHA-256 over every original file byte.
  3. Copy the 64-character hexadecimal checksum or download the JSON report. Repeat with a second file if you want to compare fingerprints.

Frequently asked questions

What is an image checksum used for?

A SHA-256 checksum is a fingerprint for checking whether file bytes match across copies or transfers. Compare the complete checksum strings. It does not describe how visually similar two images are.

Can a hash identify whether an image is AI-generated?

No. The checksum alone contains no authorship or generation verdict. It covers the file's bytes, including saved metadata, but does not explain what those bytes mean or who created them.
