The adjustment adds the selected percentage of the channel range and clips values at black or white. Transparency remains unchanged. Clipped highlights and shadows cannot be recovered afterward.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a photo or graphic and inspect the current light and dark areas.
  2. Enter an Amount between −100 and 100. Positive values lighten the image; negative values darken it.
  3. Run the adjustment and check whether highlight or shadow detail has disappeared. Use a smaller change if needed, then download the PNG.

Frequently asked questions

How do I brighten an image without losing highlights?

Start with a small positive Amount and inspect bright areas after each run. This tool adds a fixed value to the channels and clips at 255, so large changes can remove highlight detail. It does not selectively recover shadows.

Does brightness change image transparency?

No. Only red, green and blue values change. The alpha channel remains unchanged, and the output is a PNG.
